The best areas to stay in Sitges
Historic centre — the most central option
Staying in Sitges' historic centre is the best option if you want to walk to all the restaurants on the Tapas Route. The old town, with its cobbled streets around the Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla, has the highest concentration of route participants. Boutique hotels, family guesthouses and charming apartments characterise this area. The downside: prices are slightly higher and parking is very limited.
Passeig Marítim — Mediterranean sea views
Sitges' seafront promenade is the most sought-after area in summer, but also offers a special experience in spring. Sea-facing hotels have terraces overlooking the Mediterranean and are 5-10 minutes' walk from the historic centre. Perfect for those combining the Tapas Route with beach days.
Train station area — ideal from Barcelona
If you are travelling by train from Barcelona, the area around Sitges station has hotels offering excellent value for money. 10-15 minutes' walk from the centre, with direct connections: the R2 Sud Rodalies train reaches Barcelona Sants in 40 minutes. Ideal for weekend breaks.
When to book and seasonal prices
Spring (April-May): The best time to visit Sitges with the Tapas Route. Pleasant weather, without the summer crowds and reasonable prices. For the route weekend it is worth booking 2-3 months in advance, especially for Fridays and Saturdays.
Summer (June-September): High season. Prices soar and availability shrinks weeks in advance. Very lively atmosphere. Sitges is one of the most popular LGBT+ tourism destinations in Europe.
Autumn and winter: Low season with the best prices of the year. Few tourists, pleasant temperatures for walking and seasonal gastronomy. The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (October) can exhaust availability that weekend.
