Sitges Museums: complete guide

Sitges is home to three world-class museums steps from the sea: the Museu Cau Ferrat founded by Santiago Rusiñol, the Museu de Maricel and the Museu Romàntic. Art, history and Modernisme in the heart of the old town.

Museu Cau Ferrat

Founded in 1893 by Modernista painter Santiago Rusiñol, this is Sitges' most iconic museum. Works by Rusiñol, El Greco, Picasso and Ramón Casas, plus a fascinating collection of wrought iron and ceramics. Entry: €12.

Museu de Maricel

With direct views of the Mediterranean, this museum traces Catalan art from the 10th to the 20th century: Romanesque, Gothic, Modernisme and Noucentisme in a stunning architectural setting. Entry: €12.

Museu Romàntic

An 18th-century bourgeois mansion famous for its extraordinary collection of 19th-century dolls. A fascinating window into the daily life of Catalan upper-middle-class society. Entry included in the combined ticket.

Fundació Stämpfli

Dedicated to international contemporary art, the Fundació Stämpfli hosts temporary exhibitions in the Palau de Maricel. The place to be for modern art lovers. Entry: €7.

Cau Ferrat and Maricel open Tuesday to Sunday. April–October: 10am to 7pm. November–March: 10am to 5pm. Closed Monday. Check museusdesitges.cat before visiting for any public holiday closures.

Combined ticket

The combined ticket for all three main museums costs €17 and is valid for one month. Best value if you plan to visit more than one. Available at any of the museums.

The 2-hour guided tour of Cau Ferrat and Maricel uncovers details you'd easily miss: Rusiñol's story, Picasso's works and the sea views from the Palau de Maricel. Available in Spanish, Catalan and English.

Best time to visit

Spring (April–June): The best time. Perfect weather, fewer crowds than summer and extended opening hours until 7pm. The Cau Ferrat gardens are in full bloom.

Summer (July–August): High season. The museums are a perfect midday escape from the heat. Visit on a weekday or arrive right at opening time (10am) to beat the crowds.

Autumn (September–October): Coincides with the Sitges Film Festival (October). A unique cultural atmosphere. The museums take part in the Sitgestiu programme with special events.

How long do you need to visit the museums?

Cau Ferrat and Maricel each take 1-2 hours. Allow 3-4 hours for a combined visit to both. The Romàntic takes around 45-60 minutes.

Are the museums open every day?

No. All museums close on Monday. Tuesday to Sunday they open 10am–7pm (Apr–Oct) or 10am–5pm (Nov–Mar). Check museusdesitges.cat for the calendar.

Where are the Sitges museums?

Cau Ferrat and Maricel are side by side at the end of the seafront promenade, next to Sant Bartomeu church. The Romàntic is on Carrer Sant Gaudenci. All are under 10 minutes' walk from the train station.
