Sitges in April: Spring Festivals Guide
Sitges in April: Sant Jordi (books & roses), 20°C weather and the start of Tapa a Tapa food festival. Spring at its best.
April is perhaps the most complete month of the year in Sitges. Temperatures reach 16-20°C, the sea begins to warm (~16°C), beaches come alive at weekends without becoming overcrowded, and the village celebrates two of its great cultural and gastronomic moments: Sant Jordi (April 23rd) and the start of Tapa a Tapa, the Costa Daurada's most anticipated food route.
April in Sitges: The Awakening of Spring
Spring in Sitges is a gift that few visitors take advantage of, and April is its most generous moment. With 7-8 hours of sunshine per day, temperatures around 18-20°C at midday and mild evenings at 10-12°C, the climate invites exploring the village on foot, by bicycle or by kayak along the coast. La Ribera, Sant Sebastià and Aiguadolç beaches have the same facilities as summer (lifeguards from June onwards) but with a fraction of the visitors.
It's when central restaurants showcase their best menus without the rush. Hotels have availability and prices are reasonable — 30-40% below July and August. April in Sitges is the secret that Barcelonans have been jealously keeping for years.
Sant Jordi in Sitges: Roses and Books
April 23rd is Sant Jordi Day, patron of Catalonia, and Sitges celebrates it with a tradition that blends romance and culture. The streets of the old town — especially the Passeig de la Ribera and the central shopping streets — fill with stalls selling books and roses: legend has it that men give roses to women and women give books to men, although today the tradition goes much further.
In Sitges, Sant Jordi has a special character: the village scale makes the atmosphere intimate and authentic, without Barcelona's crowds. Local authors sign copies, village bookshops put on their best displays, and florists offer roses that compete in elaboration. It's the most photogenic day of the year in central Sitges.
Tapa a Tapa Sitges: The Great Food Route
At the end of April (exactly April 24th, 2026) begins Tapa a Tapa, the most anticipated tapas route of the season. For approximately two and a half weeks, 40 Sitges restaurants serve their signature tapa at around €4 per unit, with popular vote deciding the year's best tapas.
The format is simple: get the official booklet (available at the Tourist Office and at the participating restaurants themselves), choose your route around the village trying tapas and voting for your favourites. Some tapas are small gastronomic works of art: from award-winning croquettes to international chef's cuisine. The variety reflects the culinary diversity that Sitges has developed as a top-tier tourist destination.
April is the opening month: the tapas are in their first service, restaurants have enthusiasm and chefs have put their best creativity forward. It's the ideal time to start the route before the best spots start getting queues.
