Sitges in September: beach, events & guide
September in Sitges: 26°C, sea at 23°C, Santa Tecla festival (22-23 Sep) and no crowds. Guide to events, weather and where to stay.
September is Sitges' best-kept secret. With average highs of 26°C, the sea still at 23°C and without July and August crowds, the town offers the best of summer with added peace and authenticity. Hotel prices drop, beaches free up and the Feast of Santa Tecla brings Sitges back to its most local roots.
Why September is ideal in Sitges
September combines perfect beach conditions — sea temperature at its most comfortable of the year — with noticeably fewer tourists than August. Restaurants on the Passeig de la Ribera are still in full swing, beach bars remain open and the atmosphere is more relaxed and local. It is the favourite month for many Barcelona residents to make a day or weekend trip.
Sitges beaches in September
Sitges' 17 km of coastline and 26 beaches remain the main draw in September. The sea reaches 22-23°C, the most comfortable temperatures of the year for swimming. Playa de la Ribera sees fewer visitors than in August, allowing you to enjoy the promenade with more space. Coves like l'Home Mort and la Balmins recover their characteristic tranquillity. Lifeguards are still on duty during the first weeks of the month.

Feast of Santa Tecla: 22-23 September
The Santa Tecla Festival is Sitges' "minor" Feast Day, with a distinctly local character. On 22 and 23 September, the town celebrates with:
- Castellers: the human tower groups (colles castelleres) of Sitges and visitors raise castells in the Plaça de la Fragata. A stunning display of human skill.
- Diables: Sitges' devil-runners parade through the streets with fire and pyrotechnics to the sound of percussion music.
- Sardana: traditional Catalan circle dance in the church square, open for everyone to join in.
A completely free and very authentic event — ideal for those who want to experience Catalan popular culture first-hand.
Prices and accommodation in September
September is mid-to-low season: hotel prices drop 20-40% compared to August. A 3-4 star hotel in the centre can be found for €80-160/night. The Santa Tecla week (22-23 Sep) sees slightly higher demand but nothing like the summer months. Check availability in the Sitges hotels guide.
