How to get to Sitges: from Madrid, the airport and abroad
Complete guide to getting to Sitges: train from Madrid (AVE + regional), from Barcelona Airport T1 and T2, from Reus, by car from France and from other cities.
Sitges is 35 kilometres south of Barcelona. Getting there by train from central Barcelona takes 40 minutes — but many people arrive from further afield: Madrid, the airport, France or the rest of Europe. Here are all the options with the details that matter.
From Barcelona
The R2 Sud Rodalies train is the standard option: 40 minutes from Barcelona Sants, ~€4, no transfers. It also stops at Passeig de Gràcia and Clot-Aragó.

From Barcelona Airport
Terminal T2 — direct connection
The R2 Sud stops at El Prat T2 and reaches Sitges in about 35 minutes with no transfer. It's one of the most convenient airport-to-destination connections on the Catalan coast. Price: ~€4 with T-Casual.
Frequency: every 20–30 minutes depending on time of day. First train: ~05:00. Last train: well past midnight.
Terminal T1 — with connection
From T1, take the free T1→T2 shuttle bus (~15 min) then the R2 Sud to Sitges. Total time from T1: around 55 minutes.
Taxi or ride-hailing from the airport
Expensive option (€60–80) but useful with heavy luggage, very late arrivals or when the R2 Sud isn't running. Only worth it when the train isn't viable.
From Madrid
There is no direct Madrid–Sitges train. The most efficient combination:
- AVE Madrid–Barcelona Sants — 2h30 min, from ~€30 if booked ahead
- R2 Sud Barcelona Sants–Sitges — 40 min, ~€4
Total door-to-door time: around 3h15–3h30 depending on connections. AVE trains depart from Madrid Atocha roughly every hour.
Tip: buy the AVE in advance on Renfe.com or the Renfe app. Last-minute prices can triple. The Rodalies ticket can be bought at the machine in Sants without a reservation.
Flying as alternative
Madrid–Barcelona flight (45 min) + R2 Sud: slower overall than the AVE once you factor in getting to the airport and boarding. Only makes sense if the flight is very cheap or you're combining with another stopover.
From other Spanish cities
| City | Option | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Valencia | Train Valencia–Barcelona (AVE/Euromed) + R2 Sud | ~3h |
| Zaragoza | AVE Zaragoza–Barcelona + R2 Sud | ~2h |
| Seville | AVE Seville–Barcelona (via Madrid) + R2 Sud | ~5h30 |
| Bilbao | Flight or train to Barcelona + R2 Sud | ~4–5h |
| Málaga | AVE Málaga–Barcelona (via Madrid) + R2 Sud | ~6h |
In all cases the intermediate arrival point is Barcelona Sants, where you connect to the R2 Sud.
From France and Europe by car
Sitges is about 175 km from the Spanish border at La Jonquera (AP-7 motorway from France). From there:
- AP-7 south to Sitges: ~1h45 min in normal conditions
- Approximate toll La Jonquera–Sitges: €20–25
- From Perpignan: ~2h by car
From Lyon: ~5h. From Paris: ~9–10h (better to combine with a flight or TGV to Barcelona).
Parking in Sitges: the challenge isn't arriving, it's parking in high season. Parking L'Estació (next to the train station) is the largest. In August it can fill up before noon. Alternative: park in the surrounding area and take the train into Sitges.
From Reus Airport (Tarragona)
Reus Airport operates low-cost flights (mainly Ryanair) from some European cities. There is no direct public transport connection to Sitges.
Options from Reus:
- Taxi Reus–Sitges: ~45–50 min, ~€60–70
- Bus Reus–Tarragona + train Tarragona–Sitges (R2 Sud): ~1h30 total, ~€6–8
From Girona Airport
Similar to Reus, mainly low-cost. No direct connection.
- Bus Girona–Barcelona (Sagales/Flixbus) + R2 Sud: ~2h total
- Train Girona–Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia + R2 Sud: ~1h30–1h45
